The Els Gorgs Institute is one of the latest projects completed by Jordi Badia (BAAS), architects who we have published extensively in Plataforma Arquitectura and who are also part of the collective 8E platform, presented in Chile as part of the XVII Architecture Biennial in Santiago.
The proposal follows common sense criteria and economy of means: a compact volume with circulation down the center that houses the program on the sides. The result is a building with a ground floor and two multipurpose floors, where the position of the program can vary depending on the functional requirements and their evolution over time.
In the central circulation, perforations enhance the space and visually stitch together the three floors. In the lateral bands, programmatic voids appear that take form as terraces, which offer views and natural light to the central circulation.
The inevitable position of the program requires us to orient the classrooms towards east-west. They have mechanized vertical slats.
The volume of the gym is attached to the rest of the program through a linear porch that runs the entire plot.
The regularity of the volume suggests industrialized construction systems.
On the ground floor, the library and the dining room are treated as individual pieces within the project. The kitchen is located in an external volume easily accessible from the street.
